Not long ago, Stantec completed its acquisition of environmental consulting firm, Jacques Whitford, which has more than 1,700 employees spread out over 40 offices. Most offices are located in Canada. The firm was entirely employee owned, and underwent the transition with a 98% approval rating from firm shareholders.

We have seen a fair amount of such acquisitions and transitions during the past months, and throughout the past year or so: larger international firms merging with or acquiring smaller firms, especially in the engineering and architecture industries.
