HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA) has won an Honor Award for Public Landscape Design for the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC) in downtown Minneapolis. The award was sponsored by the American Society of Landscape Architects-Minnesota.

The HERC master plan and site work transforms an industrial waste-converter complex into a sustainable garden that enhances the site’s function, infrastructure, and history. Landscape highlights include new gardens that reconstruct habitats within an urban setting. Plantings evoke the scale of HERC’s industrial operations and provide scenic amenities for the adjacent pedestrian walkways to Target Field ballpark (for which HGA also served as local architect and engineer). In addition, new sidewalks, plantings, lighting and ancillary street furniture along Seventh Avenue further enhance pedestrian, vehicular and public-transportation access to the ballpark.
