1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge
As of 2010, MIT’s undergraduate and graduate engineering programs were rated the best in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report. This private research college offers Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Doctor of Science and Doctor of Philosophy programs in engineering. The engineering school’s departments include electrical engineering and computer science, materials science and engineering, civil and environmental engineering, nuclear science and engineering, chemical engineering, biological engineering and mechanical engineering. Students can join one of several on-campus clubs, including the Student Engineering Association, or take part in undergraduate and graduate research opportunities in one of the nearly 20 research centers and laboratories.

2. University of California, Berkeley
Berkeley is listed as a 2010 ‘Best Western College,’ as well as a 2010 ‘Best Value Public College,’ by the Princeton Review. The engineering school at Berkeley is home to Kresge Engineering Library, which catalogs thousands of engineering documents and industry journals. Additionally, there are over 30 engineering-related research centers, as well as seven educational departments, including industrial engineering and operations research, nuclear engineering and ocean engineering. At this highly ranked U.S. university, engineering students can earn a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science or Ph.D. in Engineering, as well as a Master of Engineering or Doctor of Engineering; dual undergraduate degrees are also available.
